What is this medicine?

SODIUM FLUORIDE (SOE dee um FLOOR ide) paste is used to prevent tooth decay. It also helps to decrease sensitivity of the teeth.

How should I use this medicine?

This medicine is applied to the teeth. Follow these instructions unless otherwise instructed by your dental professional: Apply a thin ribbon of cream to a toothbrush. Brush thoroughly once daily for two minutes, preferably at bedtime. After using, adults should spit the paste out after use and should not eat, drink, or rinse for 30 minutes for best results. Do not swallow the paste.

Talk to your pediatrician or dental professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. This paste has been used in children as young as 6 years of age, however, precautions do apply. Children of 6 to 16 years of age should spit the paste out after use and rinse mouth thoroughly.

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?

This medicine produces few side effects when used as directed. If it is swallowed, side effects may occur.

Talk to your doctor or health care professional for advice if you have any unusual side effects.

What may interact with this medicine?

Interactions are not expected.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • kidney disease

  • stained, mottled, or pitted teeth

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to fluoride, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Visit your dental professional for regular checks on your project.

Do not swallow this paste. Prolonged daily ingestion can cause abnormal tooth enamel. Enamel is the hard part on the outside of the tooth. Report any changes in tooth color, such as unusual staining or spotting of the teeth.
